At 5:20 AM, the team spotted a Coyote about 150 feet from their tent.
By 6:35, the team was back on the water, beating the 7:03 sun rise by 28 minutes.
By 8:12, the team had already traveled 60 miles up river, putting them 60 miles
ahead of schedule.
As the team made their way up river, the water level began to drop. They did
manage, however, to stop by Standing Rock Sioux near Mobridge, SD to see the
burial site of the legendary Sioux chief, Sitting Bull.
When the team arrived at Fort Yates for a tour, they had to hike 1/4 mile
from the river bank to get to the facility.
Lake Oahe was so low that the team became disoriented and could not find the river at the north end.
They had to travel over land 1/4 mile through forest to get back to the river.
The water level dropped further as the team continued the trek up river. As a matter of fact,
the water was 20 feet lower than normal.
The team made their way to the next checkpoint, Walker Landing. Unfortunately, the
landing was not there due to the low water level. Walker Marina was also inaccessible.
At the end of the day, the team set up camp on the side of the river and settled down
to sleep at 10:00.
The team traveled 134 miles today, placing them at mile 431 south of Garrison Dam and
far behind schedule.
