The team traveled a distance of 297 miles today at an average speed of 38 MPH.
Throughout most of the day they maintained a speed of 55 MPH. Since the team was making such good time they had to wait two hours at Big Bend for the chase van to catch up. Temperatures varied from 90 degrees during the day to 60 degrees at night. Some of the waves encountered were about 1.5 feet high. The team camped on the river bank for the night. Unfortunately, they were unable to find firewood to stoke the fire for dinner. Article in The Duncan Banner, August 29, 2004
