This sleek cruiser was designed and built by one of the nation’s premier custom hovercraft builders. Don Bender is known throughout the United States for his meticulous craftsmanship, aerodynamic designs and top notch paint jobs. Don designed the craft to run on Lake Huron in large waves. The craft has been run in 4 foot waves and feels stable, safe and dependable.
This particular unit was constructed from United States Coast Guard approved structural honey comb. The construction method is lightweight, very strong and provides built in floatation.
The craft features movable seating, sun roof, bilge pump, custom tuned quiet exhaust system on both the lift engine and thrust engine, movable controls, GPS and marine radio.
The control system is designed so that the craft can be operated either from the left or right side of the hovercraft. Steering is through a yolk style control system; left right moves the rudders while pushing and pulling moves the elevator up and down. The lift engine and thrust engine are set up on separate controls for precise operating.
Important facts about this cruiser:
• Both lift fan and prop were specially engineered and built for this craft
• Floor is raised 3 ˝” to create an air bubble under the craft
• Skirt flotation system to allow stopping in water without clearing skirt
• 3 sealed floatation compartments
• Low decibel engineering for extremely quiet operation
Opening sun roof allows stand up operation

Looking for an extremely high end, well built hovercraft? This machine was built by Travis & Shane Wilkey, two highly skilled UH craftsman. The craft was finished in June 2010 and operated just long enough (40 hours) to work out all the bugs.
The craft is made from Polyiso foam, marine plywood and fiberglass. Polyiso foam is the best quality core material available and is used extensively in aircraft wing construction. The marine plywood is laminated in a layer of 6 ounce fiberglass on each side to create a high strength and permanent structure.
The craft has a removable top that provides shade in the summer while adding to the sleek lines of the craft. A removable sunroof allows the pilot to stand in the craft while operating.
The thrust engine runs perfectly. With a 2,000 lb payload the thrust engine runs at 2,500 rpm. Average fuel economy is 15 mpg. With a light payload the craft can easily achieve 20 mpg.
The seating was designed for the craft to be used in a hovercraft ride configuration. 12 passengers can comfortably fit in the cockpit.
The control system includes three vertical rudders for steering and one horizontal wing for trimming the craft. Rudders are operated with a joystick; left right moves the rudders and moving the joystick up & down operates the trim wing. A twist grip throttle on the joystick controls thrust engine rpm. The throttle has a friction lock for cruising.
Lift engine is controlled with a lever in the instrument panel. The lever friction locked and is infinitely adjustable.
No trailer is available at this time, however the brothers will build one to fit should you require the option.
