Cordova Summer Cruise 2010

Bill Zang & Bob Windt will be hosting the second annual Cordova Summer Cruise on the beautiful Mississippi River. Two cruises are planned; Saturday we will be heading north to Palisades Park and beyond. Sunday morning we will be heading up the Wapsi River. Home base will be our design shop in Cordova IL.

Saturday: Cruise departs between 9:30 and 10:30am. We are cruising north on the Mississippi river to Chestnut Mountain Resort with a quick stopover at the Palisades Park. (This is of course wether permitting. If its rough out we will only go as far as cruisers are comfortable.) Approximate distance from Cordova is 60 miles. Travel time is typically 2 hrs depending on river conditions. This cruise does include a lock thru at lock and dam #13 in Clinton IA and another at lock and dam #12 in Bellview. Those of you who have not locked thru in a hovercraft - this will be a treat. Be sure to bring mooring ropes to secure your craft in the lock. If you have a wooden hull, make sure your craft floats. Locking thru takes approximately 20 minutes. Lunch will be at Chestnut Mountain Resort (please read below for more information). We will return to Cordova at roughly 5:00 pm.
We have room in the UH yard for those whom would like to camp. Please let me know if you plan to camp.

Saturday night activities: After our cruise the grills will be fired up. On the menu are slow cooked brats with green peppers and onions, hamburgers, chicken, potato, corn on the cob and chips. During dinner a giant bon fire will be lit (bigger than last year). Sometime after things cool down we will have a short slide show in the shop.

Sunday: Cruise departs between 9:30 and 10:30am. We will be cruising up the Wapsi River. This river empties into the Mississippi River 5 miles north of Cordova. Depending on the river level we will cruise 8- 30 miles up this river. When water is high the bridges are low. If this is the case we will explore the backwaters around Princeton Beach, take in some sun and have fun.

Arrival: Anyone attending the cruise is invited to arrive Friday afternoon or evening. Camping is available in the yard.

Saturday Cruise:
*Our final destination pending good weather is Chestnut Mountain Resort http://chestnutmtn.com/index.cfm . This is a ski hill accessible by river. We would dock and ride the chairlift to the top for lunch. Those that are interested can ride the alpine slide down the hill http://chestnutmtn.com/activities_alpineslide.cfm .

**We are thinking of having a nice lunch at Chestnut Mountain Resorts Sunset Grill. http://chestnutmtn.com/restaurants_sunsetgrille.cfm . Cost per person would be roughly  $ 8 to $ 10. Alternate launching site: Benet's Landing in Cordova IL
Landing is at the intersection of: 3rd Ave N. and 10 St. NW.
Landing is concrete, road leading to it is gravel. This site will be used as an alternate if the Shop parking lot is full. Please check in at the shop first.
